This
steadily growing specialist in JFTCs posted a turnover of Rs 346.58 crore for
its cables division. Last year, Usha Beltron merged with Usha Martin Industries.
The company also launched its new software unit–Usha Martin Infotech Ltd.
UBL produces a range of telephone cables from 10 to 2,400
pairs, meeting the requirements of various domestic and international
specifications and has received the ISO-9002 accreditation.

It has also launched a strong IT initiative to consolidate
its position as the leading manufacturer of cables and wires. Towards that end,
it has been connected by LAN and WAN enabling transfer of data across centres.
The groundwork for implementing ERP across the organization has also begun.
Extended Net access will enable global sourcing of raw materials, potentially
lowering costs in the process.
UBL’s JFTC manufacturing plant went operational in 1998.
Located in remote area of Tatisilwal, Ranchi, Bihar, the site was chosen because
of the ideal environment it provided.
The company has received the Confederation of Indian Industries Award for
sustained productivity in 1994 and 1995. The technology is from KABEL RHEYDT
(formerly AEG KABEL), Germany–a member of the Alcatel Group. The company,
however, does not presently hold any shares in UBL. The entire stake was brought
off by Usha Martin Industries.
