Railways introduce GPS based tracking system

Indian Railways has unveiled Real time train information system(RTIS) , a GPS based train tracking system working on Satellite Imaging for Rail navigation (SIMRAN) technology, developed jointly by Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) &IIT Kanpur.

The new information system is more accurate compared to the existing train running information system which has many limitations.

RTIS will provide information about the movement of Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains to passengers like their speed, approaching station, delays and other details.

The concerned passengers can go to http://www.simran.in to avail information about the train movement. Along with it the information can also be accessed through SMS by sending the train number to a cell number-09415139139.

The ministry of railways has decided to implement RTIS to track all trains including the freight trains by Dec. 2012 regarding which a work has been approved in the Railway budget 2011 at a cost of Rs 110 crore.
