Consumer affairs secretary Pankaj Agarwal is leading the race to grab the coveted post of secretary of Department of telecommunications. Department of information technology secretary J Satyanarayan is the other close contender for the same. However, sources in the concerned ministry said that the balance is now tilted little more towards Agarwal than Satyanarayan.

The post of the secretary, DoT is is going to fall vacant as the current secretary R Chandrasekhar is retiring by the end of this month.

Agarwal, the former head of National Internet Exchange of India, sources say, is more close to the telecom ministry compared to Satyanarayan. Agarwal, a 1978-batch IAS officer, has earlier served as joint secretary in the department of information technology and also headed the Greater Noida authority.
