Using the cell broadcast technology, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) tested PAN-India emergency warnings on Tuesday. Multiple sample tests were conducted. The government will be able to accurately and universally distribute alerts in emergency scenarios thanks to the experiments.

The message was transmitted on Tuesday and read: "Advisory: DoT, Govt of India would conduct Cell Broadcast testing with NDMA. You may receive test alerts on mobile with sound/vibration. These alerts are part of testing process, do not indicate an actual emergency and do not require any action at your end."

The alarm message has been tested in both Hindi and English. The cell broadcast system is being intensively tested by the DoT on the networks of several telecom carriers. Users will probably start to see more of these test notifications from the government in the near future.

The message made it abundantly apparent that it was a test message sample and that the user didn't need to take any action. In the event of an emergency, the DoT intends to deploy cell broadcast technology to deliver timely alerts to the appropriate areas. This technology is urgently needed, particularly in areas like Kashmir and Manipur where emergency circumstances frequently occur.

The National Disaster Management Authority and the Department of Telecommunications are working together to test the Cell Broadcast Alert System in order to improve emergency communication during catastrophes and guarantee the safety and well-being of citizens. The Ministry of Communications had earlier stated in a statement that each telecom service provider is undergoing tests for the Cell Broadcast Alert System.

According to a statement from the Department of Telecommunications, “These tests will be conducted periodically in different parts of the country to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of emergency alert broadcasting capabilities of the systems in place, of various Mobile Operators and Cell Broadcast Systems, the Cell Broadcasting System.”

Similar message has also been circulated earlier that read, “This is a SAMPLE TESTING MESSAGE sent through Cell Broadcasting System by Department of Telecommunication, Government of India. Please ignore this message as no action is required from your end. This message has been sent to TEST Pan-India Emergency Alert System being implemented by National Disaster Management Authority. It aims to enhance public safety and provide timely alerts during emergencies.”

Since July, consumers have experienced five or six instances of receiving a “emergency alert: severe message.”
