Gemalto partnered with Tata Docomo for the MNO portal management solution. Please tell us more about this solution, and plans to tie up with other operators for the same.

Gemalto's offering will help further liberate customers from remembering complicated codes and configuring services each time a user changes his mobile handset. The Gemalto solution provides TATA DOCOMO subscribers with easy-to-navigate menus that enable them to enjoy a wide range of value-added services (VAS) with even more convenience, using any type of mobile phone. They benefit from innovative services including mobile banking, mobile instant messaging, and information on demand, through a user-friendly interface.

Please tell us what is the latest that Gemalto is doing with respect to mobile TV, m-payment, user authentication, and managed services?

In the area of Mobile TV, Gemalto proposes a complete offer for Mobile TV service operators to secure access to TV services broadcasted to end users over their portable mobile TV terminals. The solution is based on a range of dedicated SIM and microSDâ„¢ products and an array of secure tokens, all certified by recognized external testing labs. Additional services, such as audience monitoring based on SIM, and OTA card administration complement this offer, bringing our customers the best mobile TV experience.

What has Gemalto done so far in the LTE space and what is it looking to do in future with NGN?

The role of Gemalto in the LTE and NGN arena is to help its customers deploy new VAS taking advantage of higher speed and IP connectivity. Gemalto provides UICC & OTA solutions for LTE. The UICC (Universal Integrated Circuit Card) is the secure element which will replace the SIM card in LTE, to enable secure provisioning, authentication, and application management for an LTE-connected device. The Over the Air (OTA) platform is used for new generation device provisioning and UICC application management. Gemalto looks forward to the deployment of LTE in India and is in a strong position to contribute positively to the evolution of LTE in India based on its experience and involvement in the projected global LTE rollouts.

What are Gemalto's future plans for the Indian market, and what investment is it looking at in the next couple of years in the Indian market?

With the entry of 3G and growth rate more likely to be fueled by a rural population, we have an interesting mix of low ARPU growth but highly addressable subscriber base which we can leverage on for data and value added services. Gemalto is well poised with a suite of practical solutions on SIM or handset and using SMS, USSD, or GPRS/3G channels to generate differentiation and value generation for the operator.
