What are the telecom solutions that Orckit is providing BSNL with in India?

Orckit's solutions play an active role in building a nation-wide PON project, bringing Fiber To The Home (FTTH) connections. The company provides networking packet transport infrastructure in metro area networks. It also allows for the aggregation of next-generation residential broadband services. For BSNL this translates to the delivery of very high capacity broadband services, over 10GE fiber network, delivery of any residential triple-play services, including IPTV/VoD, VoIP, and high speed internet, the enabling of high capacity VPN services to enterprises, backhauling wireline and wireless over unified and cost optimized network. The bottom line is that Orckit will provide BSNL with more bandwidth and more services at the lowest cost. By using standard and carrier-grade MPLS technologies, Orckit-Corrigent's solutions provide the ability to separate and dedicate traffic per subscriber and/or service.

Having recently expanded into India, have you set up any R&D centres and in which cities are you planning to expand your reach?

Orckit-Corrigent has been active in India since 2006 and has an established regional headquarters and R&D Center in Gurgaon, India that serves both the Indian sub-continent as well as the Gulf countries. The company plans to significantly increase this investment in the coming years. Following our breakthrough deal with BSNL, we have revised our investment plans and are already in the process of enhancing our nationwide presence by opening an office in Bengaluru. We are also looking forward to recruiting additional personnel in India.

3G and BWA have recently come into the Indian market. Please elaborate on how your offerings are scalable and upgradable for NGN technology.

Orckit provides next-generation packet transport. Transport is also used for backhauling of mobile traffic. In addition, the usage of standard and interoperable MPLS technologies is becoming the de-facto backhauling for mobile networks. Our solutions are equipped with synchronization and circuit emulation technologies that are needed for both 3G and 4G backhauling.

Are you planning to tie-up with any private Indian operators for these services in the near future?

Our most recently announced operation in India mentioned BSNL as a customer and this is a strategic customer for Orckit. Serving BSNL is a top priority. Our local office in India is working at all fronts to establish additional deals, including government operators and private operators.

How will Orckit help in increasing India's broadband penetration?

Cost is one of the major challenges to bring broadband to the entire nation (resulting from challenging ARPU) and therefore Orckit has developed a cost optimized solution that will help ease this effort.
