NSN is topping the charts of the 3G equipment vendor list after bagging deployment orders from many leading telcos in India. NSN bagged 3G orders from Airtel, Aircel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular for 3G deployments in India this year.
Idea Cellular has commissioned Nokia Siemens Networks to supply equipment, and build and manage its HSPA networks in four circles – Uttar Pradesh (East), Uttar Pradesh (West), Kerala and Haryana recently. NSN is currently a major GSM vendor for Idea and the deal will strengthen this relationship with a smooth overlay of 3G on the existing GSM network.
Aircel has selected NSN to supply, deploy and manage its HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access) enabled 3G network in three circles – Punjab, Kolkata and rest of West Bengal.
NSN will operate and manage Aircel’s 3G network for four years under a managed services contract. Using its global service delivery model, it will also deliver network implementation, optimization, network management, operations and maintenance services remotely from its Global Network Solutions Center (GNSC). Nokia Siemens Networks has supplied and continues to manage Aircel’s GSM/EDGE network in six circles of the country.
Vodafone also announced later this year that NSN and Ericsson India will be their partners for its 3G network across India. The equipment vendors will enable swift 3G deployment; create synergy between GSM and 3G networks, and maintain HSPA networks in nine of Vodafone's 3G license circles.
Bharti Airtel has also chosen Nokia Siemens Networks along with other vendors as network partners to launch 3G services in India.
The biggest reason why telcos's preferred first choice being NSN is because of NSN's role in 3G deployment globally. Nokia Siemens Networks has global experience in 3G network operations, gained from managing 60 3G managed services contracts across the world. It has also provided 3G/HSPA optimization projects to more than 90 customers globally.
