National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has opted for a complete Cisco IP-based communication network for its main headquarter in New Delhi, for its campus-wide converged Local Area Network (LAN) that supports voice and data traffic all over the main headquarters. The network currently supports over 75 senior management using Cisco IP Phones and is scalable up to 1,000 users. NHAI has also deployed the next-generation unified messaging platform from Cisco - the Cisco Unity.
The Unity solution enables a single communications platform for users within NHAI to access their voice mails, e-mails as well as faxes even when they are on the move. "NHAI had the advantage of setting up a green-field network and we opted to go for a new-world communication network. By surveying existing technology NHAI saw that IP the best way to build a scalable infrastructure that will grow as India's national highway system grows. Since Cisco is the market leader, we chose to go with
them," said Atul Kumar, general manager, IT, NHAI.
