Freescale Semiconductor is introducing the third edition of QUICCsupply
power management integrated circuits (ICs) to support its industry-leading
PowerQUICC(tm) communications processors. The

Sipera Launches VoIP Security System
Sipera has launched a an IP Communication Security product Sipera IPCS 310.
The newly-launched security system is specially targeted at the end-users. It
protects applications from DoS/DDoS attacks, stealth, spoofing, and VoIP spam.
At the same time it allows legitimate calls to be processed simultaneously. The
Sipera IPCS monitors VoIP traffic, detects anomalies in traffic and call
patterns, and identifies threats, to protect end-user devices and network
infrastructures against attacks, misuse and service abuse.
According to Sipera, the system is deployed as a bump in
the wire without an IP address in any existing VoIP infrastructure and hence
does not require on-site interoperability testing or network configuration
changes.
CyberMedia Launches BioSpectrum Asia at Singapore
CyberMedia, South Asia's first and largest specialty media house, has
launched BioSpectrum Asia, Asia's first print magazine dedicated to the Life
Sciences industry, which provides comprehensive coverage of the exciting
business developments in the region in Singapore on Thursday. The print edition
of the bi-monthly magazine was launched during theBioSingapore Forum Annual
General Meeting, Singapore's leading Life Sciences event.
Pradeep Gupta, chairman and managing director of CyberMedia |
“Through this magazine, BioSpectrum, India's first and
only exclusive biotechnology business magazine will extend its footprint to
cover the path breaking happenings in the Asia-Pacific region's life sciences.
We decided to launch the magazine in Singapore as it gives us a unique platform
to address a cosmopolitan audience in the Life Sciences arena. The launch of
BioSpectrum Asia, earmarks another of CyberMedia's ongoing global expansion
initiatives” said Pradeep Gupta, chairman and managing director of CyberMedia,
the publisher of BioSpectrum.
As the world's economic fulcrum gradually shifts towards
Asia, there is an increased focus on the exciting happenings in different
industrial sectors. In the 21st century, life sciences has emerged as one of the
most promising segments in terms of growth as well as providing benefits to a
vast number of people in the world.
“In addition to the bi-monthly print magazine, the
exciting developments in the Life Sciences sector in the world's fastest
growing region is already being delivered to industry leaders in all the Asia
Pacific countries through a fortnightly digital magazine and a news-based
website (www.BioSpectrumAsia.com),
under the BioSpectrum brand name from Singapore,” added BioSpectrum
editor-in-chief, Shyam Malhotra.
The Asia edition of BioSpectrum provides comprehensive coverage and useful
insights into the exciting areas of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical
devices, and research highlights and policy announcements from around the world,
which will be of use to the Life Sciences business leaders in the region.
Life Sciences is the term used to refer to pharmaceuticals,
biotechnology, medical devices and healthcare Services. While Japan has always
had a major presence in Life Sciences, including the world's second largest
pharma industry, in recent years, China, India, Taiwan, Korea, Australia and
Singapore have emerged as significant players in this arena.
The global Life Sciences industry is estimated to be worth
about $2 trillion. The Asia-Pacific region accounts for nearly 20% of the sector
even though it is home to nearly 60% of the world's population. But this
region is fast catching up with double-digit growth rates. If healthcare
services are excluded, the Life Sciences sector will be approximately $1
trillion. And the Asia-Pacific region has nearly quarter of the share of Life
Sciences excluding healthcare.
Benefiting From Migration to IPTelecom operators in India will soon have to migrate their networks to
IP-based technologies, as packet technologies have given rise to IP
applications. And every thing is gradually converging on Internet Protocol (IP).
This is healthy for the industry. Many experts at the two-day conference of PTC
India Foundation felt this. The subject of the conference was 'Everything on
IP (EOIP): Hype or Reality.' All speakers affirmed that it was no longer a
hype but a reality, as shift is happening. And transition to IP is in full swing
in many countries in Europe and America. AK Sinha, CMD, BSNL said, as the
incumbent operator with the largest circuit-switched communication network in
the country and also to compete with the private operators BSNL has started to
shift towards IP. SN Gupta, advisor (CN), TRAI added on this discussion that
core as well as interconnection of Internet security access should be dealt with
utmost care. He further added that new policies would be more focused on
customer-orientation as now they have become more price-sensitive. The
technologies have to be re-defined regarding NGN and the private operators have
to look more on this front.
PTCIF chairman, PS Saran later announced that 'PTCIF
Telecom award of the year 2005' has gone to BSNL for its contribution to take
telecom services to all parts of the country particularly to rural masses in
remote areas at affordable and competitive prices. One of the highlights of the
conference was a lecture delivered by Dr Sugata Mitra, chief scientist, NIIT on
'Self Organizing Collaborative System' on computer learning by rural masses.
In the panel discussion on 'IP-based Networks for Rural Growth', speakers
unanimously said rural market now offers a huge business potential and operators
can no longer afford to ignore this market. The session ended with the
concluding remarks from G Hariharan, adviser ITES, VP, PTC India.
