How will convergence of technologies and the impending 3G implementation
impact the operator's OSS/BSS?
This is an exciting time in India with the Indian telecom industry being one
of the fastest growing telecom markets in the world, with the addition of more
than 12 mn consumers every month. With new players coming into the country with
new pricing benchmarks, India has also become one of the most competitive
markets in the world. In addition to this, 3G and WiMax are knocking the doors.
These changes at the time of convergence will push the operators to work out
innovative market strategies. Technology will change to adapt to these
situations. There will perhaps be a change in the way SPs make the billing
process. A new perspective of data centric rating will arise, and the way we
gather the logs will change. There could be an impact on mediation, activation
and layer of all network facing applications.
How do you help telcos address the challenges emanating from the
convergence, 3G, and WiMax?
We have created excellent transformational capabilities to help telcos
compete effectively in the market. On one hand, we have capabilities in the
IT/VAS space; while on the other hand, our knowledge in the equipment space has
helped us build strong competencies in the area of networks. We have a large
skill base, and a good understanding of CTO requirements. This helps us to roll
out and manage the networks for telecom operators, as well as partner with
telecom equipment vendors (TEVs) to complement their offerings. We have also
created innovative business models to engage with customers to build scale, and
share the risks/ rewards.
How is your eCO-Net contributing to green?
'Go green' is a theme that goes beyond the four walls of CSR. Energy and
cooling costs are the two vital components in a compute-intensive business such
as telecom. Additionally, telcos are looking for sustainable energy solutions
that will not only help them reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, but also
optimize their energy costs to a large extent. eCO-NET helps telecom operators
bring down opex, and achieve a green environment. The key benefits for telcos
from eCO-NET are reduction in the energy cost per subscriber; improved
environmental KPIs around GHG emissions, waste; improvement in site operations
parameters; and ensuring the capital expenditure on infrastructure is kept to a
bare minimum without compromises on any resources.
