Nepal Telecom's average daily turnover touches NRs 70 mn

The average daily turnover of
Nepal Telecom(NT)-the state owned telecommunication company-has reached Nepali Rupees (NRs) 70 mn. It earned total revenue of NRs 13.1 bn during July to December 2008.

Buddhi Acharya, deputy managing director, NT says that the company earned NRs 12.46 bn during the first half of the current fiscal year. NT has been providing a wide range of services including PSTN telephone, mobile services (GSM and CDMA), ADSL and Internet data card among others.

“We also earned NRs 468 mn as interest from the bank deposits,” Acharya says.Despite a tough competition in the telecom market with the entry of new players, the revenue of NT is growing significantly. NT has managed to expand its subscribers´ base from 6,72,000 a year ago to 4.91 mn.

NT is the highest profit making public enterprise in
Nepal. It is also the largest taxpayer in the country. NT paid NRs 12.24 bn in as tax, royalty and dividend to the government in the fiscal year 2008-09.
