MTNL opts Alphion GPON technology

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) will shortly roll out Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) services. To offer this service, MTNL has looped in Alphion Corporation to leverage on its Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology. Alphion GPON technology is selected for the first phase of the deployment of triple-play FTTP services.

The Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) product family consists of Optical Line Terminal (OLT), Optical Network Terminals and passive optical splitters. The Alphion OLT has 40 GPON ports per shelf and supports a unique, low cost fiber path protection architecture particularly for the Indian market. Alphion GPON solutions enable the convergence of wireless and wire-line networks. It is suitable for distribution of multiple-play voice, high speed Internet, data and video services and also for backhaul of WiMax, 2G/3G/4G cellular and future wireless networks.
