MF Farooqui appointed telecom secretary

MF Farooqui, secretary of heavy industries has been appointed as secretary of department of telecommunciations and has taken charge today.

The 1978 batch Tamil Nadu cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, will be replacing R Chandrasekhar, a 1975 batch IAS officer from Andhra Pradesh cadre. Prior to this, he was secretary, heavy industries, government of India. He also worked as special secretary and additional secretary in environment and forest department.

Farooqui had also served as private secretary in ministry of urban development and poverty alleviation in government of India from December 1, 1989 to November 1, 1990. Then he moved to ministry of IT and communications and has spent almost seven month at the department. He has also worked as private secretary ministry of law and justice for 11 months. Again he was appointed as private secretary in ministry of science and technology for five months.

He has worked as joint secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, Union Ministry of Finance. In the mid-nineties he worked as consul general of India in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and also worked as chief executive and member secretary of Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority.

He is a post-graduate in Physics as well as a post-graduate in Business Administration and hails from Balia district in Uttar Pradesh.

During his career, his postings include that as Principal Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu in the Industries Department.
