India has seen the roll-out of 5G services in up to 200 cities so far. This new technology promises accelerated speeds roughly 10 times faster than 4G.

The meeting gains importance because improved telecom service quality is sure to please mobile customers who are dissatisfied by call dropouts and inconsistent networks. The launch of 5G ultra-fast services across the nation coincides with this as well.

Over the past few months, ever since the telcos started rolling out their 5G services, concerns about service quality have received a lot of attention. In December, the Telecom Department held a meet with operators to examine the increasing number of call drops and service-quality while it though through potential regulation changes to enhance call quality. The telcos said that it is a temporary issue and, with time, should subside as networks and devices are more optimized for connecting with the 5G networks.

According to TRAI ,"Regular interactions are held with concerned stakeholders through meetings, consultation papers and open house discussion to review the status of QoS and measures to further improve the consumer experience"

In accordance with "The Standards of Quality of Service of Basic Telephone Service (wireline) and Cellular Mobile Telephone Service Regulations, 2009," TRAI of India has already established the Quality of service (QoS)  for basic telephone service and mobile phone service. The regulatory body's minimal requirements must be met by the telecoms.

In light of rapid network growth and adoption of cutting-edge technologies like 5G, TRAI stated that, "As QoS improvement is an ongoing exercise, it requires close assessment and monitoring especially with the fast-paced network expansion and introduction of latest technology like 5G."
