Net neutrality is a term used to describe that internet service providers and the government should treat all data on internet equally, irrespective of content, users, applications etc.

This meeting will be chaired by AK Bhargava, member, technology, and will be the second meeting of the committee. The committee was set up to examine net neutrality from a public policy perspective, its advantages and disadvantages, the economic impact, if any, on the telecom sector that arises from a licensed telecom service sector and unregulated applications and content sectors, including over-the-top players (OTT), or app makers.

The panel will take up the issue even as the telecom regulator is set to soon start the consultation process on net neutrality, including the definition of the term.

The DoT committee will deliberate on viewpoints of all stakeholders including telecom service providers, civil society and OTT (over-the-top) players, among others.
