MF Farooqui to be new DoT secretary

M F Farooqui, secretary of heavy industries is slated to be the next secretary of department of telecommunciations, highly placed sources in the concerned ministry said.

The 1978 batch Tamil Nadu cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, will be replacing R Chandrasekhar and is expected to take charge on April 1. At present, he is secretary of heavy industries in government of India. He also worked as special secretary and additional secretary in environment and forest department. He hails from Uttar Pradesh.

Current DoT secretary Rentala Chandrasekhar, 1975 batch IAS officer from Andhra Pradesh cadre, is retiring at the end of this month.

Farooqui had also served as private secretary in ministry of urban development and poverty alleviation in government of India from December 1, 1989 to November 1, 1990.Then he moved to ministry of IT and communications and has spent almost seven month at the department. He has also worked as private secretary ministry of law and justice for 11 months. Again he was appointed as private secretary in ministry of science and technology for five months.

He has also worked in external affairs ministry and embassy of India in India and abroad for four years . Apart from his cadre and other ministries, Farooqui has also worked in finance economic affairs as private secretary and additional secretary for industries department.

Consumer affairs secretary Pankaj Agarwal and department of information technology secretary J Satyanarayan are two other bureaucrats running in the race for the coveted post of secretary of Department of telecommunications.
