Airtel looked closely at Reliance Jio, the largest telecom provider in India, following which it revealed its backup broadband strategy. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) was contacted by Airtel with the request to prevent Jio's offering. But it won't happen any longer. Reliance Jio has received a clean chit from TRAI on the offer, according to an ET Telecom report.

Jio's broadband backup plan caused Airtel the most anxiety because it was a predatory offering that was harming customer interests and upsetting the competitive balance in the DTH (Direct-to-Home) market. Since Reliance Jio has received a clean chit from TRAI on the offer, Reliance Jio is able to keep providing its clients with the broadband backup plan as a result.

JioFiber Backup is was the internet-user plan from Reliance Jio, introduced earlier this year. Plans for JioFiber Backup start at Rs 198 and include unlimited data at 10 Mbps, free landline calls, and the option to instantly improve users' internet connection speeds. You can enhance your broadband speed up to 100 Mbps for a week depending on your needs. In addition, users have the option of purchasing a five-month backup plan for Rs 1,490, which also includes an installation cost of Rs 500.

Interesting to note is that when Jio released the broadband backup plan, even Airtel released a super affordable broadband package on the market. The cost of that package was same to the inexpensive plan offered by Jio.

Two new 10 Mbps and unlimited data broadband plans called Broadband Standby Plans had been introduced by Bharti Airtel.

Customers who purchase Airtel's Rs 199 Broadband Standby plan get unlimited internet at 10 Mbps speeds. This entry-level 10 Mbps service has a 5-month term and costs Rs 1,674 in total, including Rs 500 in one-time installation fees and GST. It also includes a free Wi-Fi router.

Unlimited internet at 10 Mbps speeds are available with Airtel's standby broadband plan for Rs 399. Additionally, the package includes a free Wi-Fi router, an Xstream box, and more than 350 TV channels. The entire cost is Rs 3,000 for a period of 5 months, which includes GST and one-time installation fees of Rs 500.

Reliance Customers who cannot afford plans that cost around Rs 500 per month are the target market for Jio's backup broadband package. In order for everyone to be able to have a broadband connection for their home, Jio introduced an extremely affordable broadband plan. However, Jio also began providing clients with these incredibly cheap plans with OTT (over-the-top) advantages like Live TV channels.

This infuriated Airtel since it increased competition in a market where businesses would normally have to decrease their costs to compete rather than raise them. However, given that TRAI has determined that Jio's offer does not conflict with the pricing laws, Jio is free to keep making the offer to users.
