Intel invests $120mn in Bangalore on infrastructure

Semiconductor giant, Intel invests USD 120 million on its infrastructure in the India's Silicon Valley Bangalore. The company will set up a third building (SRR3) on an area spread over 18 acres at Sarjapur Ring Road which is expected to be completed by mid 2015. Currently, it has two buildings - SRR1 and SRR2 in the same campus.

While this investment hardly brings cheer to fresh employees in India. Kumud Srinivasan, president of Intel India stated that they have no plans to enhance their workforce currently. Commenting on a recent news report on layoffs at Intel, Kumud said that layoffs aimed at staying in tune with the market's progress. And she added, "The idea is to shift headcount from low priority areas to high priority areas."

The company will consolidate its existing offices spread across Bangalore in different areas namely Bagmane Tech Park at Byrasandra, Ecospace at Varthur hobli, Brigade Tech Park and ITPL at Whitefield, Jayamma Nagappa at Dasanapura taluk and its own property at Embassy Golf Links Business Park at Inner Ring Road near old airport road.

Until now, Intel has invested over USD 2 billion in India which is the largest non-manufacturing site outside the US.

The foundation stone was laid by S R Patil, Minister for IT and Biotechnology, Science and Technology, Planning and Statistics, Govt. of Karnataka and Arvind Limbavali, MLA of Mahadevapura constituency also attended the ceremony.

Kumud Srinivasan, president of Intel India said, "The India center makes significant contributions to the entire product portfolio offered by Intel. Our new capacity in Bangalore will give us the right resources to make a meaningful difference as the company moves into exciting areas like the Internet of Things. This move reinforces Intel's commitment to invest and grow in India."
