Indus to set up 2,000 towers pan-India

Indus Towers, a venture promoted by the Bharti Group, Vodafone India and Aditya Birla Telecom, is planning to set up 2,000 mobile towers pan-India.

The company has increased the number of its telecom towers in Maharashtra and Goa Circle to 11,000 from about 4,000 in 2008.

With this, the company has able to cover over 380 towns and 43,500 villages in the region which has a subscriber base of 61 mn mobile phone users.

"Building upon its presence of over 1,13,000 in the country, Indus plans to add around 2,000 more towers nationally of which around 20 per cent are expected to be in the Maharashtra and Goa Circle," media reports said quoting B L Venkateshwar, CEO of Indus Towers (Maharashtra and Goa Circle).

The company is in compliance with radiation norms framed by DoT, Venkateshwar informed.

Indus Towers was set up in 2007 and it provides passive infrastructure services to telcos in the country.

Indus Towers, a venture promoted by the Bharti Group, Vodafone India and Aditya Birla Telecom, is the market leader with more than 1.1 lakh towers.

Recently, Viom Networks, the telecom tower company where Tata Teleservices holds a majority stake, was in the news as American Tower Corp (ATC) is likely to gain control over the firm with Rs 19,000 croren offer price.

The US-based company turned out to be the top bidder for Viom beating other players such as Carlyle and Providence.
