ICTs to be ITU's Theme This Year

ITU has chosen to celebrate its 139th anniversary with the theme 'ICTs: Leading the way to sustainable development,' to help focus the attention on the strategic role which ICTs can play in reducing poverty and creating opportunities for long-term development. To pursue this goal, this year it would aim to raise awareness of the Declaration of Principles adopted at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). Alongside, it would encourage the various national governments to incorporate the target of universal access (as adopted by WSIS) in their national development strategies.
