Huawei is still committed to India manufacturing and denies the story run by certain media about its India manufacturing plans.
The company is still planning to set up a comprehensive manufacturing facility in the country and would focus on products like mobile devices and infrastructure equipments.
The company spokesperson said, ''Huawei is very positive on India manufacturing and is open for future manufacturing as well.''
As part of the localization strategy and long-term commitment to India, Huawei has already established its own manufacturing facility in Chennai and has also done contract manufacturing with Flextronics India and both have been in operation for production of telecom network equipment since 2011 added company spokesperson.
The Chennai facility focuses on optical equipment, microwave and network equipment components whereas Flextronics unit manufactures optical equipment based on outsourcing model. Both the facility have been in operation since January, 2011.
The company is committed towards further investments in India in the future and continue to see strong demand with major customers build out both in 3G and LTE networks.
Huawei India currently has operations in 19 major regions and employs over 6,000 technical and professional staff across the country.
On the R&D front, Huawei has the biggest R&D center outside China in Bangalore since 1999 that employs 2,000 engineers currently.
Recently, it opened another R&D center in Bangalore with a capacity of another 1,000 staff and are investing an additional US $150 million in a new R&D campus in Bangalore which is currently under construction.
The company has also established a global NOC (Network Operations Center) in Bangalore which caters to services business of global operators and also act as a disaster recovery center for Gurgaon NOC.
