Comnet does not believe only in network integration. It also
believes e-enabling of networks–a testimony to the fact that
the networks of future will have to be e-centric.
It has the advantage of
being the only VSAT company that does network integration of its
own rather than sub-letting to network integrators. Though it
started as a VSAT company, it has been gradually shifting its
focus from VSAT to network implementation, and recently to e-nabling
of networks. So the company builds a secure network and then
transforms it for e-commerce activities. The company either
builds the complete solution or takes the project in parts. For
our revenue we have taken those projects where network
integration is involved. We have rejected some of the VSATs
projects as most of them come with a router card where
integration is not required.
In 1999-00, it garnered a
revenue of Rs 59.16 crore–a drop over its performance in
1998-99. This was surprising considering its excellent
performance and growth the year before.
Studying the different
projects completed by it shows that the company targets Defence,
ISPs, and manufacturing companies. Some of the projects bagged
are Ministry of Defence, Indal, Caltiger, Excel Logistics,
Satyam, Williamson Magor, and ABB.
To provide its customer the best of
solutions HCL Comnet has tied up with a large number of vendors
on different fronts. For VSATs it has tie-ups with Gilat, STM
Wireless, Viasat, and Nortel DASA. On the networking front, the
company has tie-ups with Nortel, Motorola, and 3Com, whereas for
security the company has partnerships with CheckPoint, Security
Dynamics, Net Partners, Web Trends, Stonesoft, Trend Micro,
Content Tech, and MIMEsweeper.
