HCL BPO Services is all set to close its contact center in Armagh and will be reducing employment in its Belfast contact center, involving up to 425 people.
The company has also announced a 90 day consultation period for the same, and says that in the current economic conditions some clients were optimizing resources and consolidating in-house.
Amongst the affected 425 employees, HCL expects to find an alternative employment for 40 percent of them during the timeframe of 90 days consultation period.
''As a responsible employer, we are committed to retain and retrain as many of the affected employees as possible and during the consultation period we will engage with each employee affected to look at ways we can assist them gain alternative,'' said Anita Barnard, GM, HCL BPO Services.
The company's work for clients would continue as normal and it will be informing all of them with its proposals.
''We are committed to the long-term development of this center of excellence and over the next five years we have plans to invest in our technologies and to create new jobs in Northern Ireland,'' added Barnard.
