NEW DELHI: BJP-led Narendra Modi government has appointed J S Deepak as new Secretary of Department of Telecommunications (DoT), who heads the prime minister’s committee on good governance, and Dr Aruna Sharma as Information Technology (IT) Secretary, Department of Electronics and Information Technology (Deity).
"J S Deepak, IAS (UP:1982), Secretary, Department of Electronics and information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology as Secretary, Department of Telecommunications , Ministry of Communications and Information Technology vice Rakesh Garg, IAS (UP:1980) on his appointment as Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs," said Ministry of Home Affairs.
A 1980 batch IAS officer from Uttar Pradesh cadre, he was secretary of department of electronics and information technology (Deity), ministry of communications and Information technology.
Deepak, an IIM Ahmedabad alumnus,he was previously additional secretary in the department of commerce prior to which he served as the joint secretary at the DoT.
Under the strategy, he replaces Rakesh Garg as secretary of department of telecommunications. Garg, also from Uttar Pradesh cadre, is new secretary of ministry of minority affairs.
According sources, from very long time Garg was asking for a change, and finally he has been shifted to ministry of minority affairs.
As I believe, Garg had no work to do in the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Thus, all the decisions taken by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Secretary R S Sharma on the behalf of telecom ministry,
On the other hand, Aruna Sharma will take over from Deepak as IT secretary. She is IAS, officer Madhya Pradesh 1982 batch, who is presently posted as Development Commissioner & A C S, Panchayat & Rural Development, Social Welfare Department, Madhya Pradesh.
"Dr Aruna Sharma, IAS (MP:1982), presently posted in her Cadre as Secretary, Department of Electronics and Information Technology , Ministry of Communications and Information Technology vice J S Deepak, IAS (UP:1982) on his appointment as Secretary, Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology," said Ministry of Home Affairs.
