The No. 1 VSAT player in India in terms of volume, Gilat Satellite Networks
is growing at the rate of 25 percent. The company is also the No. 1 player in
both TDMA and DAMA front. In the FY 2000-01, the company sold close to 2,700
VSATs in the country, of which around 93 percent were TDMA.

The company has tie-ups with NIC & NICSI and NSE on the captive front,
and on the shared services front, the company has tie-ups with Comsat Max, HCL
Comnet and Essel Shyam. On the shared services front, Comsat Max contributes the
maximum share in both TDMA and DAMA. On the captive front, the company has sold
1,200 VSATs, of which 1,000 was for National Stock Exchange.

This fiscal, Gilat is focussing on areas like distance education, broadband
and ISP market with digital video broadcasting products. The company is also
looking at the newly opened Ku-band market, in terms of Ku-band hub, where the
company is yet to make a breakthrough in the country.
