NEW DELHI: Deepak Mittal, CEO, TO THE NEW Digital, believes that freedom and growth of start-ups would be at stake, if zero rating is implemented.

He says: "We breathe in a digital world where Internet has become more of a basic need than a luxury. Loss of net neutrality will mean preferential access to Internet for brands and consumers alike. With mobile becoming the first screen, access restrictions on information will bring in humongous alterations in the digital landscape. If we want a level playing field, net neutrality is the way.

Currently brands are heavily relying on Internet as a major part of their integrated marketing approach. From small businesses to Fortune 500 companies, all are leveraging online platform for their good. Once zero rating is implemented, freedom and growth of various start-ups would be heavily impacted. The budding entrepreneurs would be competing with big budget corporates in an unfair market place, which will certainly bring in a paradigm shift in the way brands market themselves."
