FDI in Telecom Accrues Rs 3,970-cr in 2001

The Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Tapan Sikdar informed Rajya Sabha that foreign direct investment in telecom recorded Rs 3,970.87 crore in 2001. Out of this, basic services accounted for Rs 393.7 crore. "The approved FDI in telecom sector since August 1991 to January 2002 is 20.11 per cent of total FDI approved. During this period, actual inflow of FDI in the telecom sector has been Rs 8,480.59 crore and out of this, Rs 3,970.87 crore has come in the year 2001 alone," the minister said
