CHENNAI: The Rs 15,000 crore DLF Group is building an IT Park here, as part
of its proposed Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
This would be DLF's first operational SEZ in Chennai city. The Group aims
to offer its tenants all the facilities offered for a SEZ. The facility is a
multi-block development of over six million sq. ft, set in a landscaped campus
of over 41 acres.
The project master plan is designed to have multiple independent office
blocks, spread around large central landscaped greens and water bodies. The
infrastructure plan includes a wide entrance road and internal access roads
clubbed, extensive parking facilities and proposed captive power generation for
the complex.
Interestingly, the DLF SEZ is set away from the IT Highway on OMR, where most
of the IT Parks, including the Tamil Nadu Government-promoted TIDEL, and other
private players such as Ascendas have established their facility.
DLF's project located at Manappakam next to the L&T ECC on the Mount
Poonamalle road, which is approximately 8 kms from the airport and 3 kms from
the city limits and is also in close proximity to the well-established
residential areas.
Highly placed sources in the DLF Group in Chennai said that the IT Park in
Chennai is a proposed SEZ development and has the same level of specifications
and services as provided in all of their complexes.
They said the project would be completed in three phases, with the first one
be completed by December 2006, and the second and third phase will be completed
by April and August 2007 respectively.
