29 stations have already incorporated the necessary infrastructure to handle 5G technology.
The Delhi Metro, known for its effectiveness and convenience, is on a revolutionary journey to expand the potential of 5G connectivity throughout its large network. A report from TheHindu confirms that 29 out of the 69 underground stations have already been renovated with the necessary equipment to provide smooth 5G connectivity, marking a significant step towards a future when everything is connected to the internet. An important milestone has been reached, according to a senior official from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), with the installation of a 5G-compatible in-building solution in these enhanced stations, the report stated.
This tactical choice exemplifies the DMRC's dedication to staying on the cutting edge of technical developments and improving the travel experience for its patrons. To guarantee thorough 5G coverage, the procedure entails integrating 3,300–3,600 MHz cards in repeaters within tunnel sections. In order to provide users with a solid and lightning-fast internet experience, these cards are gradually being installed and commissioned. Further improvements won't be required once these installations have been properly finished throughout all subterranean stations, guaranteeing passengers uninterrupted access to 5G connectivity.
Although the DMRC is making outstanding progress towards building a 5G-capable metro network, the timetable for fully implementing this ground-breaking endeavour has not yet been determined. Before setting a deadline, it is important to give the project's complexity, precise preparation, and execution into consideration. 29 stations have already incorporated the necessary infrastructure to handle 5G technology. The DMRC's infrastructure providers are helping with the modifications at the remaining stations, which are expected to be finished in the following four months.
VoicenData had earlier this year in May reported that The Yellow Line of Delhi Metro will soon have 5G services and Yellow Line metro's Samaypur Badli-Huda City Centre line will serve as the starting point, according to DMRC. On the 49 kilometre stretch from Huda City Centre to Samaypur Badli, there are 37 stations in total. Nearly 3 to 4 lakh passengers commute on this route on a daily basis.
DMRC issued an invitation to tender for the installation of 5G network hardware. The telecom provider will pay DMRC rent rather than installing 5G network. Per pillar, this rent will be assessed. The amount of the rent has yet not been decided. Only after the telecom firms have submitted an application, will the fare be determined.
Three phases have been established by DMRC to complete the installation of the 5G mobile network on pillars, starting with the first phase from Samaypur Badli to GTB nagar, followed by the second phase from Saket to Arjangarh, and the third phase from Arjangarh to Huda City Centre. 5G mobile network infrastructure will be installed by Delhi Metro on 795 pillars along this route.
