Datawind bags 100,000 3G tablet order from Movicel

Datawind, a company known for the development of world's cheapest tablet has signed 100,000 3G tablet order from Movicel, one of the top mobile players in Angola.

The total order value for Datawind is at Us $10 million and the delivery for 3G tablets are planned to be completed in 8 weeks time frame and plans are to supply it in batches.

Confirming this news, Yon Junior, CEO, Movicel said ''The company will offer extraordinary device to their customers in Angola offering very low prices on 3G access. We also expect that in second half of this year, Datawind will offer 4G tablets to take benefit of 4G network deployed by Huawei.''

Presently, the company is focusing on a complete bouquet of 3G services like education, multimedia messaging, local content, games, video, business solutions, video conferencing, and automation. Datawind tablets will help people of Angola thereby bridging digital divide.

With the availability of Datawind tablets, the company is planning to provide customers in Angola market an astonishing technology experience added Junior.

The tablet to be supplied by Datawind has features like Android OS, 4 GB flash memory, 512 MB memory and capacitive touch screen. It is also customized for the Angola market and will be branded as Movinet.

Movicel is the pioneer in mobile services since 2003 for the Angola Market and is planning to launch 4G FDD-LTE commercial services in 1.8 GHz band in the 2nd quarter of 2012. In Phase I plans are to deploy 4G in 15 cities including Cabinda, Soyo, Benguela, Lobito, Huambo, Uige, and Great Luanda. In the second phase, plans are to deploy LTE network in 30 cities.

The company plans to have 1 million 4G customers by December, 2012. Presently, it has a subscriber base of 4.5 million mobile subscribers (as per December, 2011) and plans are to increase it to 7 million by December, 2012.
