Connect 2006 to host Digital Home expo   

CHENNAI: Connect-2006, the premier ICT event of Tamil Nadu organized by the
Confederation of Indian Industries (Southern Region) in association with the
state government here will have two high-profile events this year: institution
of awards to first-generation entrepreneurs from Tamil Nadu and an international
ICT exposition of digital home products and services. 

Disclosing this to the media here, Gopal Srinivasan, chairperson of
Connect-2006 and director of TVS Electronics, said that ICICI Ventures would be
instituting the ICICI Venture — CII Connect 2006 Entrepreneur Awards. 

“The awards will be given to four eminent first generation entrepreneurs
from Tamil Nadu. The categories would be for timeless contribution and as person
from Tamil Nadu who succeeded in Tamil Nadu, in India and globally; a person
from outside Tamil Nadu who has succeeded in Tamil Nadu; a person from outside
India who had succeeded in Tamil Nadu; and for a person from Tamil Nadu who
contributed to success by providing enables like ample human resources,” he
informed. 

The award jury comprises leading CEOs and thought leaders from various
fields. 

Interacting with the media via teleconference about the award, Renuka Ramnath,
managing director and CEO of ICICI Venture Funds Management Company said that as
India's oldest and largest private equity player, ICICI venture's purpose
was always been to foster entrepreneurship. 

“We are delighted about this opportunity to express our appreciation and
admiration for entrepreneurs by instituting the ICIC Venture-CII Connect this
year,” she said. 

Digital home exposition

On the Digital Home Exposition to be held conducted n the sidelines of
Connect-2006, Balmohan Tarakad, president and CEO of Trade Fairs and Conference
International (TFCI) said that the exhibition would give a complete experience
of the futuristic world of products that make-up for the necessities as well as
pleasures. 

“The expo will focus on a whole new world and showcases a convergence of
digital products and services that are profoundly impacting the way you work,
live and play. Hence, the demonstrations at this expo will help you understand
