China Telecom aims to offer FTTH to 100m homes

China Telecom and Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell are on a partnership to support broadband services. Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell facilitates the setting up of a fibre optic broadband access network.

Alcatel-Lucent will supply its Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) product family, supporting GPON, EPON and DSL technologies and it enables fibre to the home, node and building. This project is part of China Telecom's strategy to expand its FTTH coverage to 100 million users by the end of the country's 12th five-year plan for 2011-2015.

Wei Leping, chairman of China Telecom's science and technology committee, said: “By 2015, China Telecom will achieve a FTTH coverage of 100 million households and 30 million FTTH subscribers.”

On completion of the project, China Telecom can offer users consumer and business services at a speed in the excess of 50 megabits a second, which will be guaranteed with quality of service levels.
