For Check Point Software Technologies, India is a good market for security business not withstanding the fact that for the past four quarters business from India has been tremendously growing for the company in spite of the recession. India contributed 30 percent to the company’s revenue in the South Asian market. Apart from that Check Point holds 70-80 percent of the market share in India in the security business. Check Point, a company dealing in securing the Internet, brushed aside rumors that they would be setting up office in India. But Anthony Lim, Regional Director for Asia Pacific, Check Point delineating on their plans for India said that by December this year they would be putting some Check Point staff in India. "They will be Indians living in India so that they can visit our partners or customers everyday. We need people here to ensure business continuity. By December our people will be working here from a real office building or business center or from home."
About an year ago speculations were running ripe that Check Point would be setting up their full-fledged office here, even the Tamil Nadu government wanted them to commit in setting up an office. Lim ruled them out and said, “People think I am here to build a building, employ some 30 people and appoint CEOs, General Manager or a Country Manager. But I am not looking for that. Check Point will have a big office and many employees maybe a few years from today but not today.” Whatever, the year end will see Check Point employees directly interacting with their customers and the vivid project besides having Ramco Systems, Select Technologies and HCL as their channel partners.
Select Technologies was rated by Check Point as the best reseller in Asia Pacific. This is for the third consecutive that an Indian company is getting their best reseller award, the first being Ramco Systems. Talking about the Indian market, Lim said that India is very well poised and serious about the security business. “The beauty of India lies in the fact that here people are able to speak in English. So it becomes easy to do things. A lot of people talk about China. China might become the biggest market maybe 20 years from now. Between now and then, India is infrastructure wise the biggest market for computer business. Because there is so much of potential here with the copper wire under the ground now.”
