The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against a TDSAT judgement of August permitting basic telecom operators to offer limited mobility services using wireless in local loop (WLL). In its applications, COAI has sought to implement the minority judgement which declared the service illegal and said the government decision to permit WLL-M was motivated by extraneous considerations to confer undue benefits on fixed operators.
The COAI has also moved the Supreme Court against Trai's recommendation for a unified licence regime. It has also sought the implementation of the TDSAT order, which had declared the WLL-M service illegal. Earlier, basic telecom operators had approached the Supreme Court against a TDSAT judgement seeking additional licence fee for WLL-M services.
