Budget 2012-13 declared use of Aadhaar for fertilizer management system. In the Union Budget 2012-13, Shri Mukherjee announced government's focus on leakage proof delivery of subsidies. A mobile-based Fertilizer Management System,designed to provide end-to-end information on movement of fertilizers and subsidies will be rolled out nation-wide during 2012 based on recommendations of the Task Force headed by Shri Nandan Nilekani.

He said that transfer of subsidy to the retailer and eventually to the farmers will be implemented in subsequent phases which will benefit 12 crore farmer families. Shri Mukherjee also announced an escalation in efforts to roll out Aadhaar- enabled payments for various government schemes in at least 50 districts within the next six months. Currently, The Aadhaar platform has been successfully used to validate PDS ration cards in Jharkhand. Also, pilot projects on Aadhaar platform are already being tried out in many parts of the country.
