BSNL has taken a good initiative to grab more broadband subscribers by upgrading the speed. It has also announced new tariff plans. But this is seen as a response to some of the leading broadband players' recent broadband offerings.
BSNL, the country's leading broadband player based on subscriber-base, has upgraded minimum download speed to 512 kbps in its unlimited download tariff plans offered to home and general users.
Under economical unlimited download tariff plans available for home users, BSNL has increased the download speed from 256 kbps to 512kbps. Apart from this, BSNL is also offering number of unlimited tariff plans to its home users i.e. BB Home Combo ULF 900 plan with 512 kbps download speed, BB Home Combo ULF 1000 Plan with 1 mbps download speed, BB Home Combo ULF 1100 Plan and BB Home Combo ULF 1350 Plan with download speed of 2 mbps etc. BSNL has also upgraded the download speed of many of its tariff plans offered to corporates, offices, businesses and other non-home users.
Under this category, BSNL has upgraded the download speed of unlimited plans BBG ULF 3300 and BBG Combo ULF 3300 to 512 kbps from the earlier offered speed of 256 kbps. Similarly, for BBG ULF 6000 and BBG Combo ULF 6000 plans, download speed has been doubled to 1 Mbps when compared to earlier offered speed of 512 Kbps.
There are a very limited number of known DSL broadband service providers in India who provide data based and time based broadband services to its users. Though BSNL became one of the few initial DSL service providers to Indian broadband users, users are bombarded with various tariff plans and schemes by some dominant players.
BSNL's new upgradings has come in the wake of many new developments happening in this sector where all other major players are continuously giving faster speed at best deals. Bharti Airtel's broadband connection is offered via land-line handsets with the packages offering free call facility with the broadband connections. The starter packages from Airtel comes at Rs 444 / month for 256kbps speed and 25 hours monthly browsing time.
On the other hand, Reliance broadband is available from Rs 900 / month and allows multi user option with the maximum speeds touching 4mbps.
TriBand MTNL which offers high speed data download for broadband Internet data speed in metro cities, starts from 256 kbps to 2 Mbps has its tariff packages start from just Rs 199 / month.
Tata Indicom services are one of those broadband services which are heavily advertised online and offline. It brings out new upgradations in its broadband plans with various offers and schemes very frequently. Tata Indicom offers many unlimited broadband plans in may cities starting from 128 kbps to 512 kbps. With 6 month advance prepaid broadband plan you can get free Installation and modem.
Considering the activities of the competition, the upgraded speed from BSNL may not be enough to beat competition. Speed is not the main concern for subscribers. Subscribers prefer to get more quality of services from BSNL and other operators.
With WiMax and ethernet already rolling in the Indian broadband market which will take this sector to completely new level, DSL service providers like BSNL are gearing up to bring in newer and innovative plans and schemes to hold on to their customers.
