PSU telecom service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has joined the tablet race with the launch of three Android tablets- Penta TPAD IS7O1R; Penta TPAD WS704C; and Penta TPAD WS802C in the country.
The tablets have been manufactured by Pantel Technologies, an ICT devices hardware company head quartered in Noida.
The Penta TPAD IS7O1R is a 7 inch resistive touch screen tablet, powered with a 1GHz processor, and 256 MB DDR2 RAM. Priced at Rs 3,499, the tab runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS and offers features including Wi-Fi, 3G Dongle support, a 0.3 megapixel camera, and an expandable memory of 32 GB.
The Penta TPAD WS704C comes packed with a 1 GHz processor and 512 MB of ram, with a 7 inch capacitive display. Running on 2.3 version of the Android OS, the tab costs Rs 9,917. It comes packed with BSNL's plans offering a 5GB 3G usage for Rs 750, and 7.5 GB 2G usage for Rs 250.
It's other features include Wi-Fi, integrated SIM card, a 2MP rear and 0.3 MP front camera, bluetooth, 4GB of internal storage which is expandable upto 32GB, 3G dongle support, and 1080pixel HD playback.
The third tablet 'Penta TPAD WS802C' offers an 8 inch capacitive display, and comes with 1.2 GHz of processor and 512MB of RAM on the hardware front. Priced at Rs 12,678 it too runs on Android 2.3 OS and offers a 4GB memory, expandable upto 32GB.
It comes loaded with the same plans of BSNL, and the features remains the same as that of Penta WS820C tablet, except the processor and the screen upgrade.
''With BSNL's world class telecom infrastructure across the entire country, the power of information technology can be harnessed at very affordable prices today,'' said RK Upadhyay, CMD, BSNL.
''With students using the bundled data download on BSNL network every month, they will recover their investment of the tablet within one and half year, thereby making the tablet free for them,'' said Vijender Singh, MD, Pantel Technologies.
All the three tablets come with 1 year warranty.
BSNL has become the second operator in India to launch its own tablets. Prior to this, last year Reliance Communications (RCom) had forayed into the 'hot' tablet market with the launch of its Reliance 3G tab.
