New Update

The ITeS sector is poised to register 55 percent growth the following year. The BPO space alone is slated to touch $3.2 billion. After registering a growth of 59 percent last year, the industry promises a lot of opportunity and is cashing in on the same. Presently, the ITES sector contributes a quarter to the IT exports revenue and this share is expected to increase during the coming years. What more India has no competition either, atleast that is what Nasscom President Kiran Karnik feels. "When I see the rear view mirror, I see no one. We are so far ahead that we have practically no competition at all," he said confidently. "Philippines, South Africa, Malaysia are few of the competitors far behind but fail when it comes to the need to scale up. Infrastructure, cost, American culture would all act as an added advantage for our competitors but if they are not able to scale up from 200 to 4,000 as per the client’s needs then there is no use for the customer to set up a base there. We are the only one who can provide them all this along with the ability to scale in leaps and bounds," he added.

"The industry should continue to look at new service lines and extend its range of offerings horizontally to its global customers. Broadening the services portfolio is not only useful in building scale, but also facilities stronger proposition for customers and better capacity utilization for vendors," said Som Mittal, Chairman of Nasscom. While referring to China as a threat, Karnik shrugged off saying, "They would take another generation to even pose as a threat for us in the ITES space."
