BPL Mobile, a cellular service provider in Mumbai, has announced a strategic tie-up with Data Access (India) Ltd, a telecom service provider, to launch ‘mots World Phone Card’, a pre-paid international calling card under the mots brand name. The card was unveiled by FB Cardoso, President and CEO, BPL Mobile and Siddhartha Ray, Founder and MD, Data Access (I) Ltd. At Rs 18/min call, the mots world phone card is offering a 25 percent saving over existing ISD rates offered by fixed line operators to USA, Canada, UK and Western Europe. Similarly, at Rs 22 per minute, users would get close to 10 percent savings on calls to the rest of the world. Available in denominations of Rs 210, Rs 735 and Rs 1575, the card can be used to make international calls irrespective of an ISD connection from all landlines and mobile phones in
Mumbai.
Commenting on the launch, Cardoso said, “The mots World Phone Card will open a new revenue stream for BPL Mobile besides offering a new way of calling international destinations from Mumbai. We see synergy in our relationship with Data Access. Data Access’ latest generation network and our strong distribution set-up will ensure that virtually anyone would be able to access this service in
Mumbai.”
DataAccess is expecting to get at least 25 percent share of all international calls originating out of Mumbai through this prepaid service and also the overall call charges in Mumbai to come down as a result of it offering competitive rates. Under this inter-carrier tie up, BPL Mobile would retail mots world phone cards across 4,000 retail outlets, 75 exclusive BPL Mobile shops and 21 galleries in Mumbai. To avail this service the user has to dial the 10-digit BPL Mobile access number 98217 00000 from any phone landline or mobile in Mumbai. This would be a local call. The Intelligent Voice Response (IVR) would ask for the Personal Identification Number (PIN) number printed on the card. After verification and reminder of account balance user would be logged on to the Data Access network. BPL Mobile is soon going to launch these cards in other circles where it is operating.
