Bharti Airtel Q2 revenue up 13.4%

Country's top telecom firm, both in terms of revenue and subscriber numbers, Bharti Airtel today reported revenue of Rs17,270 crore for the quarter ended 30 September, an increase of 13.4% on an annual basis.

The total revenue of Bharti for the same period previous year was at Rs 16,975 crore.

However, the company reported a fall of 38.17% in its quarterly profit brining its consolidated net profit down to Rs 1,027 crore ($210 million), hit by higher interest costs and foreign exchange losses worth Rs 239 crore.

The net profit for the corresponding period of previous year was at Rs 1661 crore.

The company also reported that net sales for the second quarter from its India and South Asia operations touched Rs 12,679 crore, up 11.7% on a yearly basis. Sequentially, however, it showed a flat growth. The net sales from its India and South Asia operations in the last quarter was at Rs 12,631 crore.

Its Africa business earned revenues of $1.3 billion compared to $975 million in the previous quarter.

Bharti currently operates in 19 countries across Asia and Africa and is the world's fifth-biggest mobile phone carrier by subscriber numbers.
