Alcatel-Lucent is on a strategic agreement with Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), Taiwan's communications service provider. As part of the agreement Alcatel will transform the network of Chunghwa Telecom and it will boost its speed, performance and efficiency in serving residential, business and mobile broadband customers.

CHT is deploying Multi-Service Edge Router (MSER) network from Alcatel-Lucent. Based on the IP/ MPLS routing technology, the MSER network will support all of CHT's fixed and mobile broadband network to simplify network structure, reduce the cost of operations and build up a high service quality and reliability network. As per the terms of the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will deploy IP/MPLS solution, based on its 7750 Service Router (SR) and 7705 Service Aggregation Router (SAR).

Alcatel-Lucent will also provide CHT with a set of comprehensive professional services including project management, network design, installation and commissioning, software integration and operations.

This will enable CHT to deliver enhanced residential video and business services, such as virtual private networks, with the support of capabilities such as video optimization and 'Application Assurance', which can guarantee that services are delivered with certain specified quality levels.

Ken Wu, president & managing director of Alcatel-Lucent Taiwan, said, “The amount of video traffic that networks are carrying has skyrocketed, and there is no end in sight. The Multi-service Edge Routing network we have deployed for Chunghwa Telecom really prepares them for a future that is characterized by smart phones, tablets and other devices accessing a vast array of high-bandwidth services all the time, from anywhere.”
