Alcatel-Lucent has signed the European Union's Code of Conduct on Energy Consumption of Broadband Equipment. By signing it, Alcatel-Lucent commits to make all efforts to abide by the principles described in the Code of Conduct for the broadband communications equipment it is developing for communications services providers and enterprises while maintaining service reliability and quality levels. Alcatel-Lucent will annually provide the European Commission with information concerning the energy consumption of the broadband equipment covered by the Code of Conduct. This is an equipment primarily deployed into service providers' networks, but Alcatel-Lucent also agreed to include certain equipments typically deployed at businesses or homes, such as DSL (digital subscriber line) terminals and optical networking terminals. “Alcatel-Lucent understands the concern our customers have about the impact their networks have on the environment, and we have taken an advanced, structured, and holistic approach toward developing eco-sustainable solutions. A key component of our program is to build smarter, eco-sustainable networks for them, while helping them reduce their total cost of ownership,” said James Watt, chief technology officer, Alcatel-Lucent Carrier Group.,
