Airtel continues to lead with highest percentage of active subscribers

According to the most recent report by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) as of April 30, 2023, Bharti Airtel has maintained its top spot among Airtel, BSNL, Vi, and Jio with the greatest percentage of active users.

The report emphasises Airtel's significant presence among its subscribers in the telecom sector based on the proportion of Visitor Location Register (VLR),on the date of Peak VLR in April 2023. VLR refers to temporary database of subscribers who have roamed into the area it covers.There is one VLR for each base station.As a result, a subscriber cannot be present in more than one VLR at once.

Even while Jio was only able to claim the top rank in Assam, Kolkata, and the North East, the gap between Jio and Airtel in terms of VLR percentages is insignificant.

Whereas, with a VLR percentage of 111.29, Vodafone Idea was able to claim the top position in just one circle which is Himachal Pradesh. With a VLR percentage of 99.67, Airtel stood a close second, highlighting its competitive stance.

The VLR subscriber statistics, as computed by TRAI, is based on active VLR subscribers on the day that the VLR subscriber count peaked for the particular month for which the data is being gathered. Switches with a purge time of no longer than 72 hours are where this data should be collected.

Similarly at the same time in March 2023, Bharti Airtel held the maximum proportion of 99.63% of its active subscribers (VLR), followed by Jio at 93.57% and Vodafone idea with 87.81% according to the data released by TRAI.

When specific circles were examined, Airtel continued to dominate VLR percentages in significant circles like Delhi and Mumbai. With a VLR percentage of 96.04, Airtel led the pack in Delhi. Jio was second with 89.06, while Vodafone Idea was third with 62.89.

Similar results were seen in Mumbai, where Airtel was in first place with 87.52 percent, followed by Jio with 83.29 percent and Vodafone Idea with 70.92 percent.

Even in Gujarat, Airtel showed its dominance with the highest VLR percentage of 110.41, leaving behind Vodafone Idea with 94.73 and Jio with 90.89 percent.
