Aircel to provide GPRS in another one month

CHENNAI: Aircel will provide Global Packet Radio Service (GPRS) service for
its subscribers in another one month, according to K V P Bhaskar, CEO of Aircel
Cellular. 

Talking to CyberMedia News on the sidelines of a function organized to mark
its three million subscribers, he said, “The necessary testing for GPRS
facility operation has been completed and we are waiting for the Government's
clearance to offer the service to the subscribers.” 

“We will be rolling out our pan-India operations by year-end and the
service would be available in places including Bihar and Himachal Pradesh,” he
said adding that in Tamil Nadu the coverage would be increased to 1000 towns
from the present 700.

On the post-Maxis takeover, Bhaskar said that Aircel was learning from its
shareholders as they were also in the same business in Malaysia. 

Aircel gave out Rs 10,000 worth of free talk time to M Sharmila of Chennai
for being its three -millionth subscriber. 

"In addition, on 6 October, Aircel subscribers (pre-paid and post-paid)
can enjoy free 'on net' service, where calls made from Aircel to Aircel is free
between 12 noon and 3 p.m.," he said.
