Intel has changed its strategy in the networking business. The company has
separated its networking business into separate business units, one addressing
the low-end networking products like hubs, switches and routers. The other
group, known as Computer International Sales Group (CISG), caters to service
providers, corporates with large data centers and telcos (both SP and equipment
manufacturers).

In FY 2000-01, Intel grew by 200 percent registering a turnover of Rs 70.50
crore. The company reaped a rich harvest from the sale of its NICs and LAN
switches, followed by Ethernet routers and VPN gateways. Good amount of business
also came from its CTI equipment sales, which alone accounted for Rs 21 crore of
the total revenue.

An interesting development last year was its decision not to sell its
NetStructure range of products under the Intel brand name. Instead, the company
has decided to OEM its NetStructure technology and has already tied up with HP
and Compaq internationally. In India, Intel has tied up with Wipro. Intel has
identified wireless and large data centers of corporates, as the growth areas
for the current year and plans more thrust on the next generation elements of
telcos. It has already rolled out two new product categories, namely, data
center appliances and hosting services products. Another focus area of the
company would be call centers, for which Intel has acquired Dialogic and plans
to launch server-based solutions.
