The state capital of Odisha's free Wi-Fi service has recently been reinstituted by Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL). According to a TOI story, the service has been restored after being temporarily suspended during the Covid-19 outbreak and has been expanded to span an amazing 500 places, allowing residents and visitors to enjoy uninterrupted connectivity across the city.

BSCL highlighted the updated features of the free Wi-Fi service in a tweet on Tuesday when it announced the programme's comeback. Users can now benefit from a free daily download cap of 500MB and a high-speed connection of up to 30 Mbps. The Wi-Fi service, which was initially launched in 2018 with only 100 access points along Smart Janpath, has significantly expanded as a result of this development. In three phases, the ambitious plan called for gradually expanding the facility to more than 500 locations. However, the expansion project had to be temporarily suspended due to the unanticipated difficulties brought on by the pandemic in 2020.

Free Wi-Fi is obviously practical, but IT professionals advise using public networks with caution. They have cautioned users from browsing or sending sensitive information via these connections since they are vulnerable to hacker attacks.

The programme will offer daily high-speed free internet for a total of 50 MB.

  • The Bhubaneswar Me Application must be downloaded from the Google Play or iOS stores in order for users to log in.
  • A user will receive an OTP following mobile phone registration.
  • The customer can access free internet service after entering the OTP.
  • To log onto the network, one must be within 100, 200, or 300 yards of the access point.
