The four Cs game–Connectivity, Content, Commerce and Community–of Satyam
Infoway, the ISP and the e-commerce player, made the company consolidate its
business further. Its revenue soared from Rs 65.34 crore in 1999-00 to Rs 168.28
crore during the FY 2000-01. The overall strategy for Infoway was to increase
the topline and simultaneously reduce the operating costs. As a result of that
it focused on the corporate services (data/network services and e-consulting
services), which today incidentally account for 68 percent of the company’s
total revenue, while the retail Internet services and portal business accounts
for the rest. The key customer wins, during the year, in the data/network
services segment were ING Insurance, Jet Airways, Zee Interactive, Aventis,
Commerce One, Pagepoint, Balsara, Lucent and Cognizant, among others. And its
network is the default one for the Compuserve subscribers in India. In the
e-consulting and web services, it made significant wins from SBI, Luxor and Dr
Reddy Labs, Ford Inda and Doordarshan, HDFC, among others.
On the Internet access front, as a Category ‘A’ ISP, it expanded its
customer base to more than 4.6 lakh through SatyamOnline Internet access and
"iway" Internet access at cyber cafes.
