Private companies

Punjab Communications, which started as a wholly owned

subsidiary of Electronics Corp. of Punjab in 1981 for manufacturing telecom

equipment, later on diversified into software and turnkey. The company went

public in 1994 diluting 26 percent of its equity. The company’s net worth is

now estimated to be around Rs 180 crore.

Punjab Communications has a significant installed base of telecom solutions

in India. It has a client base that covers almost every major industrial and

infrastructure segment in the country. Even though its software client base

includes a number of big names like Oracle, it is public sector companies that

are the mainstay of the company’s business. These include PSUs like ONGC, IOC,

SAIL, GAIL, NTPC and BHEL besides DoT, VSNL and MTNL. It has successfully

executed turnkey projects for Southern Railways, Western Railways, and GAIL. The

company’s manufacturing and software development facilities located near

Chandigarh is one of the bests in the country.
