Escorts Communications Ltd (HECL) is a JV between Hughes Network Systems and
Escorts Ltd.
The company has a market share of 31percent in the VSAT
segment in India. It registered a turnover of Rs 104 crore, an increase of 17
percent over the last year. It sold 1,265 VSATs worth Rs 59.35 crore in 1999-00
and netted Rs 44.51 crore by way of service. The services are spread over 400
cities connecting nearly 150 customer-network. It bagged major contracts from
Airport Authority of India, Philips, Nokia India Ltd, and Crompton Greaves among
others.

HECL provides VSAT satellite communications services through
its hub earth station in Gurgaon. The service, called Hughes Net, provides
customers with interactive data, voice, and fax communications facilities.
The company has strategic tie-up with IBM India, Datacraft
RPG, and Ramco for providing networking solutions for its customers. AT&T
MNS is also one of its partners for long distance services. It has a
comprehensive customer support.
HECL is building a second hub station in Mumbai to increase
its capacity and is also working towards to implementing Ku-band technology in
India. It is awaiting Government clearances on the same.
The company has tied up with Ceycom of Sri Lanka and has set up a shared hub
VSAT service.
