In the fiscal 2001-02, Finolex Cables posted a turnover of Rs 374.8 crore
from sales of communication cables, with a growth of 18.6 percent. The total
turnover of the company, which also sells electrical cables was to the tune of
Rs 604.6 crore.
Last fiscal, the company completed the acquisition of erstwhile wholly-owned
subsidiary Finolex Technologies (JV with Lucent Technologies). Finolex has also
embarked upon expansion of its optical fiber division at Urse, near Pune. In the
first stage, 1.2 million fiber km capacity per annum would be created. In the
second stage, with addition of equipment, an additional capacity of 1.2 million
fiber km per annum will be created. In the first phase, the total capital outlay
is estimated at Rs 125 crore and trial runs are expected to start by
September/October, 2002.
Finolex Cables also became the first Indian company to manufacture the
trunk-and-distribute CATV range of cables.
Theseables are manufactured at its
facility at Goa. With this, Finolex now has the complete range of Internet-ready
coaxial and CATV cables, jelly-filled telephone cables, and optical fiber
cables, which form the core of telecommunications cables.

Finolex received the ISO 9002 certification last year across all product
lines and plants. This is in addition to the ISO-14001-quality certification for
its plants at Urse and Goa earlier.
